Alexandra Feodorovna

Alexandra Feodorovna c1900 by Hungarian Painter József Árpád Koppay (1859 – 1927); a court paint to many of the royal houses of Europe.

The the original title of this portrait is Zarin Alexandrowna, which is actually the name of another princess, Zarin Marie Alexandrowna von Rußland (Marie of Hesse) (1824 – 1880), who was also Empress of Russia and wife to Emperor Alexander II (1818 – 1881).

Research indicates that it is most likely a portrait of Alexandra Feodorovna (1872 – 1918), Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine at birth; and the last Empress of Russia as the consort of Emperor Nicholas II (1868 – 1918); and favorite granddaughter of Queen Alexandrina Victoria (1819 – 1901) of the United Kingdom.

Photos of Alexandra Feodorovna show a resembelance to this portrait, and Zarin Marie Alexandrowna passed away 20 years before this painting was made; besides that the two women look nothing alike.

In this portrait Alexandra is wearing a white gold or silver tiara on her head that is embellished with large rubies, large globe pearl earrings, a large 6 loop pear necklace.

She is also wearing a white and orange silk dress over which she has a very large fur coat with embroidered patterns on it.

This is a remastered digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image that is available for purchase online as a rolled canvas print.
