A beautiful work of child art with a young girl sitting on the front steps of a doorway, which we can assume is her home; as she is sitting with a bowl and spoon which is filled with milk and some sort of cereal.
Perched on her right shoulder is an adorable grey and white cat with a black tail that goes around the back of the girls head and that is wearing a blue bow around its neck.
The young girl also has a large red bow tied to the left side of her hair and she has a silver necklace around her neck that has three gold coins hanging at the center.
She is also wearing a white blouse with long sleeves and a pink stripe pattern; over which she is wearing a velour burgundy dress and a white apron wrapped around her waist and resting on her lap.
In the background on her right are a few red and yellow flowers that are growing up the wall of the building from the corner of the steps.

Émile excelled in his paintings of softly lighted, adorable figures of children and elegant young women, with whom he often associated a pet such as a cat, dog or bird, and adorned his images with garlands or bouquets of flowers, throughout his career; but he was also a very versatile artist that could paint with rigor and power as in his works the portrait of Madame Vernon and Sous la Lampe (Under the lamp).
