Калиопа, Muse of Epic Poetry

Калиопа, Muse of Epic Poetry c1798 Century by French Painter Charles Meynier (1763 или 68 – 1832) specializing in historical subjects of the late 18th and early 19th century

This is an eye catching painting of Calliope from Greek Mythology, who is the Muse that presides over eloquence and epic poetry. Named by Hesiod and Ovid as the Chief of all Muses.

Here Calliope is sitting on a boulder with one hand holding an open parchment with writing on that rest on a writing board while in the other hand she holds a brass horn while she looks at a bust which represents Homer (OMHPOC); with clouds reaching down from the heavens to where she is sitting.
