Femmes Arabes Devant Une Porte c1878 by American Painter Frederick Arthur Bridgman (1847 – 1928); known for his orientalist style genre, landscapes and historical paintings.

This is classical orientalist style genre scene of people in possibly a North African village with a center focus of a young man that is a servant to a prominent lady of the village.

The young servant is dressed in a blue garment with a white under dress, an orange-reddish headdress with red tassels that drape down his neck and over his left shoulder, with a stick in his left hand.

The young man has his right forearm on the top of a purple saddle that is on the back of a white donkey standing by his side.

To his left is the prominent woman dressed in a white shoes, a red undergarment with a white garment on top, that has a white hood and then another orange garment on top, with a blue cloak that has black decorations, with a full length black face mask.

She is talking to another women at the entrance of a doorway, that is outfitted with a light blue and dark pink scarf, a red dress, a bracelet and large earrings.

Sitting by the entrance-way are two woman sitting on the ground that are selling fruit and eggs from two baskets; that are fully covered except with their faces.

The younger of the two woman that has a thin silver bracelet on her left forearm and two oranges in her left hand; while the other woman has multiple bracelets on her left forearm and on her outstretched right arm are several bracelets, with her holding an orange in her right hand.

To the left of the scene there are three men that are sitting on steps drinking tea and discussing business in front of a shop; that is connected to several the main building that has a tree by it’s side, near the a window that women dressed in what is looking out of at the woman by the entrance-way of the building.
