François Boucher was a French painter, and is considered to be one of the most important artists of the Rococo period, which was characterized by ornate decoration, pastel colors, and playful themes.
His paintings included religious and mythological subjects, imaginibus, et landscapes; but he is best known for his depictions of beautiful women in luxurious settings.
He was a prolific artist, and worked in a variety of mediums, including oil paintings, drawings, as well as engravings, and was a favorite of Madame de Pompadour; the mistress of King Louis XV, creating many works for her and the French court.
Boucher’s style was characterized by his use of soft, rounded forms, flowing lines, and delicate colors, which gave his paintings a sense of sensuality and grace.
