L’Aurore
L’Aurore (Dawn) c1868 by French Painter Adolphe Alexandre Lesrel (1839 – 1929); a historical and genre painter.
This is an allegory painting depicting a nude young woman standing on rose and grey clouds that is stretching her arms upwards as if just awakening from a sleep.
She has very long brown hair that is adorned on her head with violet flowers with green leaves; and she has a a large blue sheer garment that is wrapped around her bent upper left arm, as the wind blows it into the morning sky.
By her feet just above the clouds, we see a cherub with its wings spread out looking up toward her as he holds a torch with a large rose colored flame that is being blown by the wind.
While in the background we see a large assortment of clouds, whose edges are being illuminated by the early morning light, and a crescent moon along with a few stars.
