Le Sommeil de Manon

Le Sommeil de Manon (The Sleep of Manon) c1906 by French Painter Madeleine-Jeanne Lemaire (1845 – 1928); who’s specialty was composing genre artwork and floral compositions.

The Sleep of Manon is a portrait of a beautiful nude young lady lying in a lavish bed with a string of pearls across her chest that her hands are holding while she sleeps.

Behind her over her bed, are very large drapes adorned with hanging flowers that are also covering the walls; and at the head of the bed is a night table that has a hand fan, powder puff, feather, perfume bottle and candle holder on top of it and a pair of shoes on the bottom portion of the table.

At the foot of the bed is an armchair with clothing laid across, as well as what looks like a pink umbrella and a large matching pink evening gown that flows on to the floor, meeting up with the sheets of the bed that are also flowing on to the floor.
