Lost in Thought c1884 by German Painter Ludwig Knaus (1829 – 1921); a genre painter of the younger 7 Düsseldorf school of painting [a term referring to a group of painters who taught or studied at the Düsseldorf Academy during the 1830s and 1840 under the direction German Romantic Painter Friedrich Wilhelm Schadow (1789 – 1862)].

This is enchanting eye catching portrait of a beautiful young brunette dressed in a deep orange dress, with a white shawl laying across her shoulders and tied in a bow at the front.

Her black hair is short cropped, with long portions hanging off the side of her head and she is wearing very small button round red earrings.

It is a simple portrait set against a brownish background with the beautiful young lady sitting in a side ways pose to the viewer, with her head turned left about 75 degrees to the viewers direction and her eyes gazing downward into the distance.
