Portrait of a Lady with a Fan by British Painter Sir Francis Bernard Dicksee [Frank Bernard Dicksee] (1853 – 1928); noted Victorian painter and Illustrator of dramatic literary, historical and legendary scenes.

This is a beautiful portrait of a young Victorian lady in three quarter profile with the left side of her face and body turned toward the viewer.

In her brown hair, she as at the front, a headdress composed of a string of white pearls, that match the globe and pearl drop pearl earrings that the is wearing; also on the side of her hair is a red bow and around her neck is a black lace choker.

She is wearing a silver satin period dress with a wide deep-v ruffled collar, a black cloth wrist choker on her right wrist and is holding an open decorative hand fan with a red tassel in her right hand.

Francis Dicksee was the son of English painter Thomas Francis Dicksee (1819 – 1895) on November 27, 1853; and who along with his sister Margaret Dicksee (1858 – 1903) was taught by his father.

Pada usia 17 Francis enrolled in the British Royal Academy of Art; achieving early success as an artist, and was elected as a member of the Academy in 1891.

Dalam 1921 Francis presented a piece at the first exhibition of the Society of Graphic Art in London, then at the age of 71, became President of the Royal Academy and in 1925 was knighted and named to the Royal Victorian Order by King George V, two years later.
