The Affinity Photo Editor was used in the photo restoration of this classical artwork.
The public domain artwork as been remastered to remove the cracks, dropouts and paper/canvas degradation of the image, using the image editor outlined above; as well as the color toning and texturing of the image.
The general approach for retouching the public domain photo starts by working on the cracks and dropouts, the proceeds to blending out where required the canvas material degradation; while still maintaining the canvas and paint strokes; and using noise to fill many of the empty spaces.
Once the process is completed, the toning of the image takes place to remove the degradation of the varnish and enhancing the faded color tones.
Once this step is completed the a frame is created using a duplicate of the finish work and noise.
