Bacchante

Bacchante c1904 by French Painter Édouard-Louis Dubufe (1849 – 1926); a French portrait artist

This is a portrait of a Bacchante of Roman Mythology (the Roman term used to define women who served the Roman God Bacchus; while the Greeks used the term Maenads for the Greek God Dioysus), as a Forest Nymph with red hair dancing in a forest.

She has a sheer shawl that is draped over her left shoulder and lifted arm that is being blown back by the wind; and a reddish-pink waist gown that is held in place by a thick gold rope.

In her hair on the right is a large red flower, and on the left is a large pink flower; while in her raised left hand that is holding a long stick with a pine cone at the top that goes behind her back and is supported with her back stretched right hand.

The stick is composed of gold and has a ribbon attached to it at the top that is the same color of the gown she is wearing, and it has wrapped around it with some berries and leaves, that are complemented by the large tree branches that are hanging above her and the setting sun in the far distance.
