Giovanni was born in Fiesole Italy in 1539 and began at the age of 10 years began his apprenticeship at the studio of Jacopo Carucci (1494 – 1557).

Three years after the death of Carucci in 1557, Giovanni went to Rome for several months and was recruited to work for Giorgio Vasari (1511 – 1574) v 1562.

He then created two Mannerist pieces for the Studio of Francesco I in the Palazzo Vecchio; which were the Allegory of Dreams and the Gathering of Ambergris.

He would later also create many other religious paintings, alter pieces and frescoes.
