Cornelis was a still life painter born in Tilburg, which is located in the sourthern province of North Barbant in the Netherlands in 1756.

He received his initial training under the mentorship of historical and portrait Flemish Painter Guillaume-Jacques Herreyns (1743 – 1827) באנטוורפן (considered to be one of the last painters of the Flemish Baroque Style of painting),.

ב 1773 he would move to Paris, France to study under is older brother, floral painter Gérard van Spaendonck (1746 – 1822); and some time later in 1785 he became the administrative head at the porcelain factory in Sèvres, האוטס דה סיין, צָרְפַת.
