아티스트 소개
George Romney was one of the leading British portrait painter of the late 18th century, who was known for his portraits of prominent figures in British society, including members of the Royal family and leading politicians.
He also painted many portraits of ordinary people and historical figures; and was known for his distinctive style, which combined naturalism with a delicate, emotional touch, and for his ability to capture the character and individuality of his subjects.
He studied under the British portrait painter George Knapton (1698 – 1778), and who was the first historian of the Royal Academy of Arts.
Romney’s early work was heavily influenced by the style of Knapton, but as he matured as an artist, he developed his own distinctive style that combined naturalism with a delicate, emotional touch.
Throughout his career, Romney continued to study the works of other artists and incorporated elements of their styles into his own work, but he remained true to his own vision and style, which made him one of the leading portrait painters of his time.
He created many portraits of the prominent figures of British society during his time, which included such figures as King George III (1738 – 1820), Queen Charlotte (1744 – 1818), William Pitt the Younger (1759 – 1806), King George IV (1762 – 1830), Queen Caroline (1768 – 1821), King William IV (1765 – 1837), 웨일스의 샬럿 공주 (1796 – 1817); as well as portraits of historical figures, which included Oliver Cromwell (1599 – 1658), 윌리엄 셰익스피어 (baptized 1564 – 1616); with his portraits being considered important records of the personalities and appearance of many of the leading figures of his time.
