Henry Clive was born Henry O’Hara just out side of Melbourne Australia, where he spent his childhood.
As an adult Clive made the move to the United States, settling in Hollywood supporting himself as a magician, until he landed himself roles in silent films in the early 1900s.
In the early 1920s he started painting Ziegfeld Girls, and then the starlets and big name stars of the time including Gloria Swanson, Polga Negri and Rudolph Valentino for various promotional campaigns.
Clive also became an art director in Charlie Chaplins Productions, where he also starred as a villian in City Lights; but what ultimately made Clive a success and a force of the Art Deco Jazz Age were his magazine cover illustrations.
