Just Finishing Reading A Novel by French Painter Delphin Enjolras (1857 – 1945) of the Academic Movement who specialized in creating portraits, nudes and interior paintings using oil, watercolor and pastels. His preferred paintings was genre scenes of young women illuminated by lamplight.
This is a reclining nude portrait of a beautiful young women laying down on her bed looking down on an open book that is resting on a sheet that is on a carpeted floor.
She is being illuminated by light from a window and by a lamp that is above her head that sits on a night stand that has beside it a decorative vase with white roses in it.
Behind her are two large round pillows and a square pillow that are leaning against a wall with a large tapet; and on her bed is a gold and copper colored sheet that she is laying on that is partially on the carpet.
She is resting her head on her right arm that rest on more pillows; with a large pillow on the floor near the book she was reading.

Delphin was born in Coucouron, ligger i Sør-Frankrike til Casimir Enjolras og Delphine Laurens i 1857.
He studied watercolors under the French watercolorist Gaston Gérard at the “Tegneskolen i byen Paris” eller City of Paris Drawing School, og han studerte også under Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824 – 1904) på Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts), og på Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret.
In the early part of Delphins painting career, he mainly painted landscapes; but would later transition in painting portraits of young women, which he excelled at.
