Laundry Maid Ironing
Laundry Maid Ironing c1785 by British Painter Henry Robert Morland (1716-19 – 1797); was a portrait painter and domestic subject matter painter.
This genre portrait painting of the 18th century, depicts a beautiful young lady as a laundry maid, that is sitting down in a high back wooden chair as she irons what appears to be handkerchiefs with a fire heated iron.
She is wearing a large white sheer mesh bonnet on her sandy blonde hair, that is tied with a wide light blue ribbon around its center; and which matches the mesh deep u-cut mesh blouse she is wearing that flows atop her gold stripe off white dress, with a corset like front.
On the cloth cover board that she is using to iron on, is a metal stand with a wooden handle to seat the iron on, as well as another handkerchief that she as finished ironing; and hanging on the back of her chair is a black knitted shawl.

Henry Robert Morland was an English portrait painter, best remembered for a portrait of King George III, and for being the father of the animal painter George Morland.
His father was the genre painter George Henry Morland, and Henry Robert followed an art career as well, becoming a painter of portraits and domestic subjects, in both oil and crayon.
He exhibited some 118 works from 1760 ke 1791 at the Society of Artists, the Free Society, and the Royal Academy. Morland also engraved in mezzotint, restored paintings, and sold artists supplies, including crayons that he made himself.
Morland was for a time very successful and even painted a portrait of George III, the king sitting in person.[2] Although he became quite wealthy for a time, he lost most of his money, and was often bankrupt in later years.
