Marion Davies Photoplay Magazine July Issue HRA by American Artist Conte Christy (1882 – 1961); illustratore, ritrattista e figura femminile.

This is a late 1920s or early 1930s illustrations of the American film actress, producer, screenwriter and philanthropist Marion Cecillia Douras (1897 – 1961); who was known to the public as Marion Davies.

She began her acting career at the age of 19, performing in the 1916 Follies and also made a film the following year; e da 1924, with the help of William Randolph Hearst (1863 – 1851) became the number one female box office star in Hollywood.

In this art deco era portrait bust illustration, Marion is wearing a black side up folded short brimmed hat with a silk like scarf attached to the brim, which is linked to some white feathers behind the hat; with her curly golden blonde hair hanging from the sides of her face.

Christy was born in 1882 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; e in 1899 at the ripe old age of 17 was painting original art for the Boardwalk Atlantic City Picture company.

Many of his early artworks were also published by the J. Hoover and Sons Calendar Company of Philadelphia; when he was 23 years of age he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts from 1905 per 1907.

During his career Christy created dozens of magazine covers, illustrations and calendar prints for publications like the Dell Publishing Company, Modern Screen and Radio Stars, Ainslee’s magazine, Rivista americana, Leslie’s Illustrated Weekly, McClure’s Photoplay Magazine, e molti altri.
