The burlesque shows which were quite popular during the 1870 up and through to the 1920’s were often loud and wild comedic performances based around what was consider indecent subject matter of the time.
One of the leading troupes of this performing style was the British Blondes led by Lydia Thompson (1838 – 1908); who first appeared in the United States in the 1860, as well as the Black Crook c1866 known as one of the early leg shows.
