This is an elegant classical art portrait of a young lady sitting in a padded arm chair playing a fancy curved neck guitar.
She is wearing a black side cap on the right side of her brown hair while on the upper left side is situated a floral silver headpiece piece comprising to types of flower designs, one set being that of trumpet like looking plants and the other a flat flower.
She has silver earrings that seemed to be composed of many small spheres and a choker necklace that is composed of round pearls that are arranged as a set of 5 white pearls, separated by a black pearl, with a decorative black ribbon tied on at the back of her neck.
She is wearing a golden flamboyant dress of many layers and large colorful floral patterns and a white laced undergarment that can be seen along the low cut portion of the chest and protruding out from beneath the sleeves.
The guitar she is playing is a rich reddish-brown color and has black top border accented with rectangular white blocks that compliment the design on the neck of the guitar that terminated in a curved hook like top with a star at the tip.
The voice box at the center is a complimentary design as well as having other elements inserted inside of the musical instrument.

Gustave est né à Paris, La France sur 1846 et fut l'élève du peintre français William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825 – 1905) du néoclassicisme, Le réalisme, Académique, Symbolisme, L'ère de l'art moderne; et n'a jamais été encadré par un autre artiste et a été fortement influencé par lui au début de sa carrière.

Gustave debut artwork was La Rêverie, une pièce d'allégorie présentée au Salon de 1865; puis dans 1866 présenté des peintures de petite dimension qui dépeignent la vie du 16ème, 17la vie aux e et 18e siècles, ainsi que de peindre des portraits de sujets en costumes d'époque du XVIe siècle.
Dans 1875 Gustave a reçu une médaille d'excellence et 4 years later was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (Légion d'honneur, anciennement l'Ordre royal de la Légion d'honneur); est le plus haut ordre du mérite français, à la fois militaire et civil. Établi en 1802 par Napoléon Bonaparte.
