Portrait Of Children c1853 by American Painter George Augustus Baker (1821 – 1880); known for his miniatures and portrait paintings.

This is a wonderful idealized romanticism portrait that is rich in color, representing the innocent pleasures of childhood; as four children enjoy blowing soap bubbles into the air.

They are on a that over looks a beautiful dusk sky and terrain, with the balcony have tree branches on either side and on the column that also has a red drape hanging from it.

There are three boys and one girl, with the oldest child dress in a black suit with gold buttons, a white shirt and green bow tie, with his right arm resting on a pedestal that the red drape is covering.

The oldest child is holding on to his sister who is standing on a small wooden table, and who is the youngest of the group. She is wearing a white dress with large rose pink bows on the collar sleeves of her dress, long white socks and black shoes.

Beside her is the second oldest brother, who has just created a bubble that his sister and older brother are admiring, and he is wearing a white shirt, burgundy jacket with a black neck tie and brown past.

Lastly is the third and youngest of the brothers and he is also holding a soap bubble pipe in his right hand and his leaning on the small table his sister is standing on, by a bowl that contains liquid soap looking at the viewer with a grin on his face; he is wearing a white shirt, black neck tie,green jacket and brown pants.

George was a successful miniaturist and portrait painter of the Victorian era, his father who was also an artist began instructing George in the art of miniature painting, which led him at the age of sixteen to begin a career as a miniature painter.

In furtherance of his career he attended classes at the National Academy of Design for sevens years, and from 1846 – 1848 traveled to Europe, and upon his return setup a studio as a successful portraitist in New York, USA.

Ho 1851 he was elected a member of the National Academy of Design; and from 1867 ho 1869 he was an instructor at the National Academy of Design, and continued to exhibit his artwork on a regular basis, until his death in 1880 lilemong tsa 59.
