Princesa Charlotte de Gales
Princesa Charlotte de Gales c1801 pelo pintor britânico Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769 – 1830); uma criança prodígio que aos dez anos sustentava a família com suas obras de arte e era considerado um dos principais pintores de retratos de sua época.
Este é um adorável retrato da Princesa Charlotte de Gales (1796 – 1817) como uma jovem de 5 anos de idade; o único filho de Jorge Augusto Frederico (1762 – 1830), Príncipe de Gales e mais tarde se tornaria Rei George IV, e sua esposa Carolina de Brunswick (1768 – 1821).
Neste retrato Charlotte está usando um vestido branco com uma faixa marrom-avermelhada em volta da cintura e ela tem o braço e a mão direitos estendidos acima da cabeça com o que parece ser um tentilhão dourado ou canário amarelo empoleirado em sua mão.

Thomas was one of 16 children born to Thomas Lawrence and Lucy Read on April 13, 1769 and was one of the five children that survived infancy.
At an early age Thomas showed is artistic talents and was consider to be a child prodigy; who at the age of 10 years was supporting his family with the pastel portraits he created.
Not only was he a self taught portraitist, but also a draughtsman; and would later become accomplished at dancing, fencing, boxing and billiards.
When Thomas turned 18 years old he went to London and quickly established a reputation as a portrait painter in oils, which led to him receiving his first royalty commission from Queen Charlotte (Sopia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz 1744 – 1818) of Great Britain and Queen of Ireland; for a portrait he did of her in 1790.
From then on he would be the most fashionable portrait painter in Europe; painting portraits for the elite of society, até sua morte em 1830 com a idade de 60.
