Rivière Gelée Avec Patineurs (Frozen River With Skaters) by Dutch Painter Andreas Schelfhout (1787 – 1870); and who was also an etcher and lithographer known for his Paisaia margoak.
This is a beautiful winter scene depicting in the background two flocks of birds flying among large ominous dark winter clouds that are being highlighted by the sun in reddish, laranja, and violet hues; set against a transitioning blue hue sky.
On the ground there are trees and plants, and to the right side of the frozen river bank there are homes that have there roof tops lightly covered with snow as there chimney’s belch out smoke indicating the fireplaces are in full operation keeping people warm.

Andreas began his artistic career as a house painter is his fathers framing business, and painted art during his free time; and after his first exhibition in the Hague, Netherlands his father sent to study with the Dutch scenery and stage painter Joannes Breckenheimer Jr. (1772 – 1856).
From Joannes, he would learn the technical aspects of painting as well as creating detailed studies of 17th century Dutch landscape artist Meindert Hobbema (1638 – 1709) and Jacob van Ruisdael (1629 – 1682).
When Andreas was 28 he started his own art workshop and also became a member of the Pulchri Studio (Ekialdea. 1847); a Dutch art society, art institution amd art studio based in the Hague.
In 1818 he became a member of the Royal Academy for Visual Arts of Amsterdam; and as his reputation continued to due to technical excellence, sense of composition, and use of naturalistic colors he became famous not only in the Netherlands, but abroad as well; eta barruan 1822 he was bestowed with the rank of Fourth Class Coreeespondent of the Royal Dutch Institute.
At the beginning of his career Andreas painted mainly summer scenes, beach scenes and animal paintings; with a few winter scenes thrown in. But it was his winter scenes that had the mos success and as a result he began to include them in his exhibitions.
Though Andreas was mainly a studio painter, he would draw his inspiration from the sketches he created when he traveled; travelling to England, France and Germany from 1825 to 1835.
In 1839 Andreas was awarded the title of Ridder in de orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, eta barruan 1844 he was awarded an honorary membership in Kunst zij ons doel.
