Seerose (Water Lily) Engraving by German Painter Leopold Schmutzler (1864 – 1940); a Rococo style genre scene, portrait and female figure painter.
This is a portrait engraving of a beautiful young woman standing in the middle of a pond with the water coming up to her thighs.
She has a sheer cloth wrapped around her right upper arm and forearm that flows over the front of her right thigh and partially over her left.
She has both of her hands covering her chest, with her right hand over her left ; as she looks over her right shoulder at the water lilies that are floating in the pond.
Besides the water lilies in the pond, she is also wearing one in her hair that is over the back of her left shoulder, as her hair flows down past her back.
In the background we can just see a log resting on the bank of the pond as well as some foliage above it, as the moon illuminates the scene.

Leopold was born Mies a town in Tachov District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic.
His father was an innkeeper and a saddler and provided his son with his first drawing lessons, then from 1880 ku 1882 he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Art with German Painter Christian Griepenkerl (1839 – 1916); and later at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, studying under Otto Seitz (1846 – 1912).
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in 1885 he decided to settle in Munich, and by the turn of the century he had become one of the most sought after portrait artist in Munich; creating art for the Bavarian Royal Family,, popular performers and dancers, including a portrait of the actress Lili Marberg (1876 – 1962) in the role of Salome.
