Christy föddes i 1882 i Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; och i 1899 vid mogen ålder 17 målade originalkonst för Boardwalk Atlantic City Picture Company.
Många av hans tidiga konstverk publicerades också av J. Hoover and Sons Calendar Company of Philadelphia; när han var 23 år gick han på Pennsylvania Academy of Arts från 1905 till 1907.
Under sin karriär skapade Christy dussintals tidningsomslag, illustrationer och kalenderutskrifter för publikationer som Dell Publishing Company, Modern skärm och radiostjärnor, Ainslees tidning, Amerikansk tidning, Leslie's Illustrated Weekly, McClures Photoplay Magazine, och många andra.
