This is a beautiful tranquil winter landscape painting of a small Dutch village situated near a frozen river with villagers on the ice, others walking along the country path and others going about their business around the village.
The scene is set with a beautiful blue sky populated with billowing white, blár, grey and reddish hued clouds; with birds flying overhead and with trees surrounding and to both sides of the village.

Alexander var sonur portrettmálarans Jean Augustin Daiwaille (1786 – 1850) og fæddist í Amsterdam Hollandi í janúar 21 af 1818.
Þó eins og faðir hans Alexander sérhæfði sig í andlitsmyndum á fyrri hluta ferilsins; Hann myndi að lokum fara yfir í að mála landslag Hollands og Þýskalands.
Hann málaði senur í Hollandi, sem innihélt Hilversum frá 1833 – 1834, Haag frá 1840 – 1848; Síðan í Þýskalandi þar á meðal Kleve frá 1834 – 1835 og 1840 – 1848.
Hann vann einnig með tengdaföður sínum Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803 – 1862) Hollenskur landslagsmálari og lithographer.
