Tamoto
Tamoto (Hihat) kirjoittanut japanilainen taidemaalari Tatsumi Shimura (1907 – 1980); Bijin-ga ja Nihonga genren taiteilija.
This is an illustration of a beautiful Japanese young lady in half frame standing up; that is wearing a pale green kimono with yellow and white floral accents that are connected by the branches of a tree.
In her jet black hair she has two large gold colors pins, a small white bow just before a large gold colored curved hair comb and bind that a large gold colored bow that ties off her and and pushes it up against the comb and forms a ball behind the ribbon.
This hair accessories combination thus divides her hair into five sections with an additional very long ivory and red pin placed into the ball section of her hair.
Around her waist she has what might be a black, with white and gold flowers accents Obi; which is a belt of varying size and shape worn with traditional Japanese clothing.
With this piece I took the liberty after removing the green overcast to enhance the reddish pink tones in the background and transitioning them to an orange color for more contrast and to make the young lady shine through even more.

Tatsumi Shimura was born in Takasaki in Gunma prefecture Japan in 1907, with the given name os Sentaro. When he was about 14 years old he began studing art with the Japanese Bijin-ga Illustrator Yamakawa Saiho and then three years later with is son Yamakawa Shuho (1898 – 1944), who was also a Bijin-ga artist.
In his younger years as with many young artist of the time Tatsumi worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazine, most notably for the Japanese magazine “Woman’s world” (Fujokai); and also worked as a painter in the Bijin-ga style; which is an art genre that depicts beautiful women.
Later in his when he was about 60 years of age Tatsumi devoted all his artistic energies to the style of Japanese painting termed Nihonga or traditional Japanese painting; which date back to about 1900 eteenpäin, and are created in accordance with traditional Japanese artistic conventions, techniques and materials.
