Jean-Étienne was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1702 and began his artistic studies under Swiss Painter Daniel Gardelle (1679 – 1753) and French Enamel Painter Jean Louis Petitot (1653 – 1702); copying enamels and minature paintings.
