C'est un historical scene showing a large group of people inside a large building with a gate to the only entrance and exit of the building, that includes men, femmes et enfants, during the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror which lasted in France from 1793 à 17943.
It shows the roll call and the act of recording the names of the people by jailers of the people that were arrested and imprisoned during the revolution, as soldiers select and then take away the named individuals.
While many other people both standing and sitting, cowering in fear not knowing what fate awaits them during this Reign of Terror; as they watch their jailers removing from the prison those whose names have been called.
