This is a beautiful colorful winter landscape painting with reddish-orange clouds set against a light blue sky where birds are flying, that form the backdrop for the people that have gathered by a frozen river; near which stands a collection of grand old building.
We can see trees, some that have not loss there leaves and are showing there beautiful green color stat stands out against the orange, brown and light green shrubbery and the terrain that is covered in snow.
There are people and animals on both sides of the river bank including men, Kvinder, children, dogs and horses; and on the frozen river there are children playing, adults skating and others using a sled to cross the icy terrain.

Frederik Marinus Kruseman received his first drawing lessons from still life painter Jan Reekers (1790 – 1858), who at the time was Director of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam; and who had also tutored his cousin Jan Adam while attending a vocational school in Haarlem from 1832 til 1833.
I 1833 derefter begyndte han at studere maleri med hollandsk maler, Graver, Litograf, Akvarel og illustrator Nicolaas Johannes Roosenboom (1805 – 1880).
Så ind 1835 han flyttede til Het Gooi i centrum af Nertherlands, hvor han tog avancerede studier med hollandsk landskabsmaler Jan van Ravenswaay (1789 – 1869); samt at studere i en kort periode hos den hollandske landskabsmaler og litograf Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803 – 1862).
Senere vendte han tilbage til Haarlem og derfra til Kleve i det nordvestlige Tyskland, hvor han malede landskaber, inden du vender hjem 1839.
I 1841 han flyttede til Bruxelles og blev der indtil 1852, bortset fra en kort periode på et par måneder, da han tog til Paris. I 1852 han tog hjem til Haarlem og blev der i fire år, hvorefter han tog til Belgien, hvor han blev til sin død i 1882.
