This is a beautiful portrait of a young lady sitting in a red cushioned chair with a white wood frame in deep thought.
She is resting her head on her left hand with her folded left arm resting on a beautifully decorated satin pillow with floral designs that itself is resting on a table that matches the chair in design with a pocket watch resting on it; and that has on its lower shelf two red and white roses.
She has rolled scarf wrapped around her brown hair as well as another gold cloth fitted to the front and flowers adorning her hair on the front and right side.
She is wearing a gold and red corset, a red, Weiß, yellow striped jacket with floral designs on the white areas, a black choker around her neck, a white floral scarf tied at the front of her chest, a cloth bracelet with a silver piece on the top and green full length skirt.
To her left is a large red drape, and behind is a darkened entry way that has gold cover paneling along the wall with a matching brown and gold drape; and to the right of that a white floral vase sitting on a ornamental shelf.

Gustave was born in Paris, Frankreich an 1846 und war ein Schüler des französischen Malers William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825 – 1905) des Neoklassizismus, Realismus, Akademisch, Symbolismus, Modern Art era; und nie von einem anderen Künstler betreut und zu Beginn seiner Karriere stark von ihm beeinflusst.
Gustaves Debütkunstwerk war La Reverie, ein Allegoriestück präsentiert im Salon in 1865; dann in 1866 präsentierte kleine Gemälde, die das Leben des 16. Jahrhunderts darstellten, 17Leben im 18. und 18. Jahrhundert, sowie das Malen von Porträts von Personen in historischen Kostümen des 16. Jahrhunderts.
Im 1875 Gustave wurde mit einer Medaille für Exzellenz ausgezeichnet und 4 Jahre später wurde er zum Ritter der Ehrenlegion ernannt (Ehrenlegion, früher der Königliche Orden der Ehrenlegion); ist der höchste französische Verdienstorden, sowohl militärisch als auch zivil. Etabliert in 1802 von Napoléon Bonaparte.
