This is a beautiful portrait of a young lady sitting in a red cushioned chair with a white wood frame in deep thought.
She is resting her head on her left hand with her folded left arm resting on a beautifully decorated satin pillow with floral designs that itself is resting on a table that matches the chair in design with a pocket watch resting on it; and that has on its lower shelf two red and white roses.
She has rolled scarf wrapped around her brown hair as well as another gold cloth fitted to the front and flowers adorning her hair on the front and right side.
She is wearing a gold and red corset, a red, bianco, yellow striped jacket with floral designs on the white areas, a black choker around her neck, a white floral scarf tied at the front of her chest, a cloth bracelet with a silver piece on the top and green full length skirt.
To her left is a large red drape, and behind is a darkened entry way that has gold cover paneling along the wall with a matching brown and gold drape; and to the right of that a white floral vase sitting on a ornamental shelf.

Gustave was born in Paris, Francia su 1846 e fu allievo del pittore francese William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825 – 1905) del Neoclassicismo, Realismo, Accademico, Simbolismo, Era dell'arte moderna; e non ha mai fatto da mentore con nessun altro artista ed è stato fortemente influenzato da lui durante la prima parte della sua carriera.
L'opera d'arte di debutto di Gustave è stata La Reverie, un'allegoria presentata al Salon di 1865; poi in 1866 ha presentato dipinti di piccola dimensione che raffiguravano la vita del XVI, 17vita del esimo e 18esimo secolo, oltre a dipingere ritratti di soggetti in costumi d'epoca del XVI secolo.
Nel 1875 Gustave ha ricevuto una medaglia di eccellenza e 4 years later was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (Legion d'Onore, già Ordine Reale della Legion d'Onore); è il più alto ordine di merito francese, sia militare che civile. Stabilito in 1802 di Napoleone Bonaparte.
