Pearl Alice Frush föddes i Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa vidare 1907; när hon var ung flyttade hennes familj till Mississippis guldkust och började sina konstnärliga studier i New Orleans, Philadelphia och New York City och sedan på School of the Art Institute of Chicago som är knuten till Art Institute of Chicago.
