This painting of of the Biblical Tale of Bathsheba the wife of the Hittite Uriah and mother of Solomon, shows her being bathed by her handmaidens; while in the far distance on top of the courtyard building, we see a man looking at her, presumably King David who is lusting after her.

Giovanni was born in Fiesole Italy in 1539 and began at the age of 10 years began his apprenticeship at the studio of Jacopo Carucci (1494 – 1557).

Three years after the death of Carucci in 1557, Giovanni went to Rome for several months and was recruited to work for Giorgio Vasari (1511 – 1574) im 1562.

He then created two Mannerist pieces for the Studio of Francesco I in the Palazzo Vecchio; which were the Allegory of Dreams and the Gathering of Ambergris.

He would later also create many other religious paintings, alter pieces and frescoes.
