Female portrait circa about 1690s by French Painter Nicolas de Largillierre (1656 – 1746), portriatist and draftsperson
This is a beautiful portrait of a lovely young lady in period dress, standing in a wooded area which may be a forest or a large garden, possibly in the fall as evening approaches.
In the background we can see some green illumination, just off the left side of her face where we see green and yellow trees, as well as some orange trees.
On her right are severay more trees of similar color to the ones on her right as well as a large red tree; and these help frame her in the piece.
Her hair is a greyish white with large blue ribbons weaved though it and it flows down her right shoulder and behind her.
She is wearing a lace ruffled white blouse, an orange embroidered dress and a blue jacket with a platinum colored inner lining that complements the platinum colored sleeves that are embellished with floral patterns in orange, white and black.

Nicolas es va convertir en un dels principals pintors de retrats d'Europa, Pintures històriques, i obres d’art de la vida durant finals del segle XVII i les quatre primeres dècades del segle XVIII.
Va néixer a París a 1656 a un fabricant de barret i comerciant que es va traslladar amb la seva família a Anvers quan Nicolas tenia tres anys.
Quan Nicolas tenia nou anys, he traveled for the first time to London, England in the company of an associate of his fathers; and after returning to Antwerp over a year later his artistic talent was recognized, and as a result he was apprenticed by his father to the Flemish Baroque Painter Antoni Goubau (1616 – 1698), a painter of bambocciate, escenes de gènere, and landscapes.
Being something of a prodigy, Nicolas was admitted to the painters’ Guild of Saint Luke in 1673 at the age of seventeen; then two years later mad another trip abroad to London, where he was employed as a restorer under the direction of the Italian Painter Antonio Verrio (1639 – 1707), at Windsor Castle; who brought him to the attention of King Charles II (1630 – 1685), who reigned from 1660 fins a la seva mort a 1685.
Per 1679 a l'edat de 23 Nicloas had settled in Paris, França; specializing the Baroque style of portraiture that followed in the grand manner of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641), i Peter Lely (1618-1680).
Aleshores el pintor de batalla flamenc Adam Frans van der Meulen (1631-32 – 1690) el va presentar a Charles Le Brun (1619 1690), qui va ser el primer pintor del rei Lluís XIV (1638 – 1715) i de qui regnava de 1643 fins a la seva mort a 1715; i qui també va ser el director de l'Académie Royale de Pinture et de l'escultura.
Després de la seva acceptació com a candidat a l’admissió a l’Académie, Va acceptar executar com a obra d'art del diploma, Un gran retrat de Le Brun, que ell a 1686, que el representa assegut al seu estudi envoltat per les accions del seu art; i un estudi del petroli per a la segona conquesta de la franca-comté, Una de les grans decoracions per al sostre de Galerie des Glaces a Versalles.
Nicolas va crear una gran quantitat d'obres d'art amb algunes 1500 retrats (Actualment està catalogat per Dominique Brême); which required hime to maintain a workshop with studio assistants, to whom he delegated the painting of costumes and minor accessories.
During his long and industrious and illustrious career, Nicolas de Largillierre served terms as a professor, rector, chancellor and director of the Académie royale; passing away at the age of ninety in 1746.
