Mary Magdalene c1660+70 by Italian Painter Carlo Dolci (1616 – 1686) av barockperioden, känd för sina mycket detaljerade verk av religiös konst.

Carlo föddes i Florens; barnbarn till en målare på sin mors sida av familjen som i mycket tidig ålder gick i lärling hos italienska barocken Jacopo Vignali (1592 – 1664).
Till skillnad från många andra målare var Carlo inte en produktiv målare; många gånger tar det veckor att arbeta på bara en del av människokroppen.
Detta gjorde honom olämplig för storskalig fresk, and so he mainly painted small scale and half body length portraits; även om han målade några fullängdsporträtt också.
Eftersom Dolci var en hängiven kristen är mycket av hans verk religiös till sin natur, visar sin starka tro och tro. Han hade också en dotter Agnese Dolci (1635 – 1686), som var en skicklig konstnär i sin egen rätt som hjälpte till att producera kopior av hans verk.
