Nature The Calmady Children

Nature The Calmady Children (Emily, 1818 ~ 1906, and Laura Anne, 1820 – 1894) c1823 by British Painter Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769 – 1830)

This is a beautiful portrait of the Calmady sisters, Emily and Laura Anne in a playful embrace as they are sitting down on a bench and in the background we can see a forest terrain.

The painting is consider to be the embodiment of unrestrained exuberance of childhood that was a critical role in the late 18th and early 19th century of European culture.

The portrait was shown at the Royal Academy, and Thomas at one time described it asmy best picture . . . one of the few I should wish hereafter to be known by.
