Étienne-Adolphe Piot was born in Digoin, Saône-et-Loire, צָרְפַת. He moved to Paris and studied under Léon Cogniet, and first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1850, so it is assumed that he was probably born in the mid 1820s.
