Schutz vor dem Sturm c1902 (Protection From The Storm) by Dutch-French Painter Frederik Hendrik Kaemmerer (1839 – 1902); a Romantic, Academic and Impressionist artist.
This wonderful fall colored ,portrait depicts an auburn haired young lady standing at the edge of some steps in a park by a stone railing and balusters.
There are leaves between the balusters and on the edge of the steps as well as plants behind and to her right, that are enclosed in a small metal railing.
She is dressed in a satin blue dress with dark brown fur lining the the collar, going down the fron and going around the perimeter at the bottom; a white slip, black stockings and black low heel shoes.
She is also wearing a matching bonnet with a tan interior that she has tied in place with matching blue ribbon; and on the hat are large black feathers that have two orange ovals with black centers, creating an appearance of cat eyes.
Completing her outfit is a black shawl or scarf that she has flung around her back and is adjusting with both her hands over her shoulders.
Behind the young lady we can see other women in white dresses and men in brown full length coats carrying umbrellas, as they leave the park to get out of the on coming rainy storm; and behind these people are trees without leaves and more trees farther off with leaves and a rainbow arching across the sky.

Frederik va néixer a l'Haia, Països Baixos a 1839 i va començar els seus estudis artístics a la Reial Acadèmia d'Art Holandesa sota la tutela del pintor romàntic Salomon Verveer (1813 – 1876), i pintant sobretot paisatges a l'estil de l'Escola de l'Haia (un grup d'artistes que van viure i treballar a l'Haia entre 1860 i 1890; i qui ha treballat va estar molt influenciat pels pintors realistes de l'escola francesa de Barbizon); fent la seva primera exposició 1861 a l'edat de 22, a Rotterdam, Països Baixos.
Quatre anys més tard va viatjar a París, França per matricular-se a l'Académie des Beaux-Arts i estudiar amb el pintor i escultor acadèmic francès Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824 – 1904); i va passar de l'estil romàntic a l'estil acadèmic pintant escenes de gènere francès de dames elegants amb homes cortès, que es van situar al segle XVIII.
A l'edat de 31 va fer la seva primera exposició al Saló Francès i a 1874 va guanyar una medalla al Saló per un dels seus quadres; i posteriorment va instal·lar un estudi a París.
També va ser durant aquesta època i durant la dècada de 1880 que Frederik va passar de l'estil acadèmic a l'estil impressionista i durant la 1889 Exposició Universal, va ser guardonat amb una medalla de plata per una de les seves presentacions.
