Apollo God of Light, Eloquence, Poetry and the Fine Arts with Urania Muse of Astronomy by French Painter Charles Meynier (1763or8 – 1832);of historical and mythological subjects in the late 18th and early19th century.
This is a mythological painting of Apollo and Urania in a garden of flowers as Apollo looks off into the heavens, holding a laurel wreath in his outstretched right hand; while he holds a lyre (hand harp) in his left arm, and a quiver with arrows strapped across his back.
Mean while Urania is relaxing on a cloud and leaning on a celestial orb of the galaxy admiring his presence as two swans swim past them in a pond they are relaxing by; in the background are several large billowing clouds set against a rich blue sky.
