At The Bath
At the Bath av den grekiske målaren Theodoros Ralli (1852 – 1909); who was known for is genre scenes, landscapes and portrait paintings.
This is a beautiful portrait painting of an alluring young lady in a bath house that is relaxing while taking a steam bath.
Her hair is wrapped with a heavy multi toned brown towel and her body is covered in an off white full length wrap that goes from just above her breast down to her legs.
She is seated on a blue tiled square like bench that has at is center a polygonal enclosure that contains steaming water; while she holds her closed fist up to the sides of her face and head in a stretching pose.
There is light streaming from the right of the scene that illuminated her chest, part of the left side of her face, her left forearm and lap; casting shadows on the other parts of her upper and lower body.
In the background we can see a large arched wall with an enclave that has in it a ceramic or metal water vase, and to the far left of the enclave is a passage way, with a smaller arch; and the steam bath scene is completed with steam vapors rising and floating throughout the room.

Om konstnären
Theodoros Ralli studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Nikiphoros Lytras (1832 – 1904), och sedan åkte han till Paris, Frankrike där hans konstverk var influerat av impressionisterna och som kan ses i är genrescener, landskap och porträtt; och var känd för sin förmåga att fånga ljus och atmosfär i sina konstverk.
Theodoros var medlem i “München skola” av grekiska konstnärer, som försökte kombinera traditionella grekiska teman med en mer modern och realistisk stil. Han arbetade också som illustratör för olika tidningar och tidskrifter i Grekland och Europa.
