At The Beach by American Painter Howard Connolly (1903 – 1990); known for his pinup girl illustrations.

Howard was a well known painter and illustration that produce a large volume of work for the leading publications of his time; which included the Toronto Star, Yankee Magazine and Colliers.

He was active from the 1940s to the 1960s; the hey day of the pin up girl art illustration genre, and during 1946 was commissioned to paint a portrait of the 20th Miss America Pageant winner, Marilyn Buferd who had garnered the title on September 7, 1946 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Howard is the one who illustrated the British Guardsman on the Beefeater Gin’s Label; as well as illustrating the children’s series The Bobbsey Twins and doing work for other clients that included the Armstrong Tire Company (est. 1912 by George Armstrong in Garfield, New Jersey).

Howard was a maritime, landscape, celebrity portrait painter and pin up girl illustrator; with his most famous artwork being that of a young Marilyn Monroe.

It is during the 1950s that he moved into creating comic book art and pin up girl illustrations as it was still a popular enough genre where artist were still in demand.
