Este es un retrato de una bacante de la mitología romana. (el término romano usado para definir a las mujeres que servían al dios romano Baco; while the Greeks used the term Maenads for the Greek God Dioysus), as a Forest Nymph with red hair dancing in a forest.
She has a sheer shawl that is draped over her left shoulder and lifted arm that is being blown back by the wind; and a reddish-pink waist gown that is held in place by a thick gold rope.
In her hair on the right is a large red flower, and on the left is a large pink flower; while in her raised left hand that is holding a long stick with a pine cone at the top that goes behind her back and is supported with her back stretched right hand.
The stick is composed of gold and has a ribbon attached to it at the top that is the same color of the gown she is wearing, and it has wrapped around it with some berries and leaves, that are complemented by the large tree branches that are hanging above her and the setting sun in the far distance.

Édouard was the son of French painter Claude Marie Paul Dubufe (1790 – 1864); who specialized in genre, historical and portraiture, en 1819 and who gave him his first artistic instruction.
When he was older Édouard studied with French historical painter Paul Delaroche (1797 – 1856) at the École des Beaux-arts.
