Reges Treiben am Markusplatz, Venedig

Reges Treiben am Markusplatz, Venedig (Hustle and bustle at St. Mark’s Square, Venice) c1859 by German-Austrian Painter Josef Püttner (1821 – 1881); a maritime painter of the 19th century.

This is a beautiful evening scene of people out for the night, walking along the boardwalk by the shoreline of a large river, that includes men, women and children as well as dogs playing with each other.

On the boardwalk are two columns, one much taller and thicker than the other, that is standing in front of a two story building where people are walking in and out of; as well as another collection of building behind the large column.

On the opposite bank of the river is a very large building with two large domes, and other structures attached to it, which can be assumed to be a palace on the bank of the river.

On the waterway we can see small boats and ships in the far distance; with stars and the full moon illuminating the entire sky and area from behind the domed building.

This is a remastered digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image that is available as a canvas print online.
