Il s'agit d'un paysage hivernal pittoresque montrant des patineurs s'amusant sur une rivière gelée; avec des voyageurs marchant le long de la rive gauche regardant; et sur la rive droite sur une petite jetée un autre homme fumant une pipe regarde sur, s'étant promené depuis sa chaumière plus haut sur la rive.
Il y a de grands conifères des deux côtés de la rive et en plus de grands arbres sur la rive gauche avec des feuilles rougeâtres et au milieu de la scène on peut voir un grand château; dont une partie s'est effondrée.

About Albert Bredow
Albert was a painter of landscapes, portraits and genre scenes, and was a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg and of the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, under the guidance of the painter German Painter Wilhelm von Kaulbach (1805 – 1874).
He was a member of the Peredvizhniki (Vagabonds) mouvement; which was a group of Russian realist artists who rejected the restrictions of academic art and advocated for the use of contemporary life as a subject matter, and was one of the leading painters of the movement, with his works being considered as masterpieces of Russian Realism.
Bredow’s landscapes and genre scenes are known for their attention to detail, and his use of light, as the use of color and texture tend to convey a sense of the Russian countryside, and the people going about their daily lives.
He was particularly adept at capturing the unique character and atmosphere of the regions in which he worked; and was also known for his portraits, which were often of local people, with a special emphasis on their work and professions.
Bredow’s work is considered to be in the Realist style, which emphasizes the accurate representation of the visual appearance of the subject, and often with a social or political message.
