An Oriental Beauty by Greek Painter Theodoros Ralli (1852 – 1909); who was known for is genre scenes, landscapes and portrait paintings.

This is an alluring portrait of an attractive young lady in the Orientalist style set against a stone wall painted with slate green, orange, yellow and white paint.

She is posed in a a side view, with the right side of her face facing the viewer as she looks down to her left, wearing a green cloth towel wrap around her head, that is tied off at the rear and an orange wrap garment that leaves her right shoulder bare.

About The Artist

Theodoros Ralli studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Nikiphoros Lytras (1832 – 1904), and then he went to Paris, France where his artwork was influenced by the impressionists and which can be seen in is genre scenes, landscapes and portraits; and was known for his ability in capturing light and atmosphere in his artwork.

Theodoros was a member of the “Munich School” of Greek artists, who sought to combine traditional Greek themes with a more modern and realistic style. He also worked as an illustrator for various newspapers and magazines in Greece and Europe.
