This is a beautiful portrait of Jennie Walters Delano (1853 – 1922) the daughter of William T. and Ellen Walters (née Harper), and the sister of Henry Walters; and was most likely done around the time of her marriage when she was 23 Alter.

In the painting she is sitting in front of an olive colored wall, with her tied in a circular bundle toward the back of her head.

She is wearing a gold necklace with a ruffled collar white blouse and a black dress with blue a black ruffles along the v-shaped collar that match a sash that she has tied around her waist.

George was a successful miniaturist and portrait painter of the Victorian era, his father who was also an artist began instructing George in the art of miniature painting at an early age, which led him at the age of sixteen to begin a career as a miniature painter.

In furtherance of his career he attended classes at the National Academy of Design for sevens years, und von 1846 – 1848 traveled to Europe, and upon his return setup a studio as a successful portraitist in New York, Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika.
