The Grand Ball
The Grand Ball by Swiss Painter Frédéric Dufaux (1852 – 1943); a genre portrait painter of young woman.
This is a wonderful genre scene of a grand costume masked ball which can be seen in the background as people are dancing in a large room; with a focus on an attractive young lady, sitting on a table looking at two companions that are seated on a love seat, as the man whispers something into the ear of a masked young lady.
The young lady sitting on the table is wearing a small black cap on the back of her auburn colored hair that has a large silver jewelry piece with diamonds embedded in it, that compliments the diamond necklace she is wearing and the floral diamond brooch that is placed on the shoulder strap of her black dress.
She has a red rose positioned at the center of the dress and is also wearing gold earrings, a gold wide band bracelet on her left wrist, and white theater gloves; along with black stockings and black shoes.
In her left hand is wine glass filled with wine, and by her left side to large bottles of wine with silver labels; along with some flowers behind the bottles and a painting on the wall of maidens bathing with one holding an arrow in her left hand, with cupid in the background.
On her right on the floor is a blue vase with lots of pink flowers, with a larger vase behind it filled with green plants; and by her feet in the front a chair that matches the style of the loveseat with a black mask and hand fan on it; there us also a plant on the lower right of the scene, behind the loveseat.
