Victoria Princess Royal
Victoria Princess Royal (1840-1901) c1858 by British Painter Frank Reynolds (Unknown – 1895); known as a portrait painter and from time to time also did genre paintings.
This portrait of Princess Victoria (Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter), is based on the portrait created by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805 – 1873) of her in 1857, with alterations done to the style of her dress and the lace veil she is wearing; Winterhalter was a Neoclassicism and Romanticism portrait artist of the 19th century.
She is posing in her wedding dress wearing a white and green floral headpiece and lace veil, with diamond earrings and a large diamond necklace. Her silk wedding dress is adorned with the same floral arrangement and on her left sleeve she is wearing The Order of Louise, beside The Order Of Victoria and Albert.
