A Vast River Landscape With Windmills
A Vast River Landscape with Windmills c1848 by Belgian Painter Charles Leickert (1816 – 1907); specializing in painting Dutch Winter Landscape.
This is a beautiful tranquil scene of people going about their daily lives by the banks of a river as they fish and cross the river from one bank to another using a river crossing boat.
In the left side of the painting we see a small village with about 5 buildings and women and children waiting by and approaching the shoreline with a long boat that is accepting and debarking patrons.
In the far distance in the middle of the scene we can see a small city with three tall buildings, and smaller buildings around them, with smaller sailboats on the water.
On the right of the scene, there are more sailboats docked on the right bank, with two windmills on the landscape and two people walking over a wooden bridge covered with earth.
